A Gibson County farmer is facing a major loss after hail from Sunday night’s storms destroyed hundreds of acres of corn.

Ethan Ireland told 14 News about 450 acres were damaged by nickel-sized hail just as the crop was getting ready to pollinate.

The corn was planted in April and had the potential to be one of the best harvests in years.

Ireland, a second-generation farmer, says he’s never seen damage this severe.

He is now working with crop insurance adjusters to determine how much of the crop can be saved and how much will need to be written off.
