Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita and a bipartisan coalition of 49 other state attorneys general are urging the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen its “Know Your Customer” rules to help phone companies block scammers from the U.S. communications network.

KYC rules require originating voice providers to verify who uses their networks and for what business.

Providers can deny or end service to those making unlawful calls.

State attorneys general say stronger standards are needed because current rules have not stopped illegal robocalls.
