The National Weather Service has rated a brief tornado in central Knox County as an EF-1, with winds of around 100 miles an hour.
The twister was on the ground for one and a half miles and was 150 yards wide.
The tornado started in a grove of trees near Mariah Creek just east of U-S 41.
It traveled over State Road 550, as well as Morgan and Hollingsworth Roads, before lifting southeast of Hollingsworth Road.
The largest damage was to a barn just off Hollingsworth Road; several trees were also affected.
The twister also just missed North Knox Intermediate School near State Road 550.
The school itself was not damaged by the tornado.
