Indiana’s chronic absenteeism rate improved for the fourth consecutive year, dropping to 14.9% in the 2025-2026 school year.
That’s a 1.8 percentage point improvement from the previous year and more than six points below the 2022 post-pandemic peak.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing at least 10% of school days, or about three and a half weeks, including excused and unexcused absences.
All grade levels improved, though rates remain highest in high school.
About 30% of seniors were chronically absent.
Nearly every racial and ethnic group saw gains.
