Suspicious Powder Letters Target Indiana Congressional Offices

Two Indiana congressional offices are part of a nationwide investigation into suspicious mail.

The Fort Wayne office of Republican U.S. Senator Jim Banks received potentially hazardous mail this week.

A spokesperson says the unopened letter was turned over to the U.S. Marshals, and the FBI, Postal Inspection Service and Capitol Police are investigating.

Now, Democratic Congressman Andre Carson’s office in Indianapolis says it also received a letter containing a powdery substance, similar to the one sent to Banks.

Officials say similar letters with white powder have been sent to Democrats and Republicans, plus Secretary of State and election offices across the country.
