Indiana Senate Majority Floor Leader Chris Garten has stepped down from the leadership post as he is viewed as favorite to challenge Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray.
Garten is a favorite of supporters of President Donald Trump and split from Bray with his support of Trump’s redistricting push for the U.S. House in Indiana.
The Senate did not pass the bill to redraw the maps for the midterm election.
Garten says it is clear to him “that serving as Floor Leader requires a seamless alignment with the current strategic direction of leadership – an alignment I no longer maintain.”
