An Indiana State Police trooper continues his recovery in a South Bend hospital after being shot in the line of duty.
Sgt. Justin Heflin underwent successful surgery and is in good spirits, according to the ISP.
The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Kevin Ward Myers of LaPorte, stole a silver Ford F-150 during a test drive at a Michigan City dealership and was later spotted at a casino trying to swap license plates.
After a police chase, the suspect shot Sgt. Heflin multiple times at a gas station.
Myers was later found dead in a cornfield with multiple gunshot wounds.
