The Knox County Council has approved minimum wheel and excise taxes for county vehicle owners.
The annual wheel tax is $7.50 for passenger vehicles; the excise tax is $5 for commercial vehicles over 11,000 pounds.
Councilman Rich Chattin proposed the taxes.
He says they are required to qualify for preferred state road funding.
The taxes will generate about $300,000 in initial revenue, plus guaranteed road funding
No one spoke during the public hearing before the vote.
Council approved both taxes unanimously.
