Halloween yard displays and pet costumes are fun for people, but they can scare and endanger pets.
The National Retail Federation says Americans will spend over 13-billion dollars on pet costumes this year.
Dr. Kelly Skinner of All Pet Healthcare in Indianapolis says keep pets leashed around trick-or-treaters, and leave fearful pets at home in a secure room away from the doorbell.
Skinner also warns to keep all candy out of reach.
Chocolate can be highly toxic, and sugar-free gum containing xylitol can be deadly, while sweets and hard candy can cause vomiting, seizures, or intestinal blockages.
