Alanis Morissette’s recent decision to publicly identify as pansexual has cast her famous same-sex kiss with Sarah Jessica Parker on “Sex and the City” in a new light.
The singer, 52, opened up about her sexuality during an appearance on the “Handsome” podcast after previously discussing the memorable 2000 scene on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September.
Morissette appeared on “Sex and the City” in the season 3 episode “Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl…” as Dawn, a woman who kisses Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, during a game of spin the bottle.

During her September appearance on “Call Her Daddy,” Morissette revealed that she helped pitch the storyline to the show’s producers.
“I reached out to them and I said, ‘Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?’” Morissette said. “And they said, ‘Why, yes. We were thinking the same thing.’”

“I think we literally had the same idea at the same time,” she added. “That happens.”
Morissette also reflected on the kiss itself, describing the moment with Parker as “easy” and “buoyant.”
“I do recall kissing her,” she said. “It was very pleasant.”

Morissette’s comments resurfaced after she publicly identified as pansexual during Tuesday’s episode of the “Handsome” podcast, co-hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin.
The conversation turned to the singer’s rocky dating history with men.
“I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it,” Feimster told Morissette before asking, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”
“I’m pansexual, so, yeah,” Morissette replied.
“Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?” Notaro asked.
“I am,” Morissette confirmed.
“You’re supposed to come into the ‘Handsome’ podcast leading with, ‘I’m pansexual,’” Notaro said.
“You know, I like to leave it for the epilogue,” Morissette responded. “I like to confuse people on the way out.”

Morissette previously spoke about sexuality during a 2008 interview with The Advocate.
“I think it’s a beautiful rite of passage for everyone to play with their sexuality at some point, so I did exactly that,” she said. “And it was great!”
“I’ve felt love from the gay community since I was really young because all my friends were gay,” Morissette added. “There’s a passion, a presence, and a curiosity with a lot of gay people that I meet, and that aliveness is such a special quality to me.”
